Since 2017, HDG has been engaged by the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University to create artwork for the most esteemed public events in their annual calendar: The James A Moffett ’29 Lectures in Ethics and the Tanner Lectures on Human Values.
UCHV’s mission is to foster ongoing inquiry into important ethical issues in private and public life and supporting teaching, research, and discussion of ethics and human values throughout the curriculum and across the disciplines at Princeton University.
Starting with the design of a poster to promote a speaker and the topic to be discussed, the artwork is then adapted and applied across a range of event materials to promote these on-campus events, including postcards, invitations, email banners, print advertisements for on-campus and local publications, and the website. The topics are complex. The creative team is required to interpret the meaning, and then use illustrations to convey their understanding. Appealing to an audience that includes both the university community and the broader public—the posters must be both eye-catching and informative.
Our work with UCHV has since expanded and includes the Annual Review. Many of these projects have been recognized in major design competitions.
